Assistant Professor, Faculty of Computer & Information Sciences, Mansoura University - Egypt
My name is Mervat Abu-Elkheir, I graduated in 2000 from the faculty of computer and information sciences, Mansoura University, to be recruited as a teaching assistant at the same faculty. I got my Master degree from Ain Shams University in 2007, and it was an empowering academic experience for me. I have a PhD degree from Mansoura University that involved collaborative work with the Telecommunications Research Lab at Queen's University, Canada, under the supervision of professor Hossam S. Hassanein.
I went to Queen's University, Canada, as part of a joint research program offered in the form of a mission-scheme scholarship. In this scheme, after I register for a PhD degree, I correspond with an international institution to get an acceptance by both a supervising professor and the institute to go there for a maximum of two years as a visiting research student. Not all international institutions accept this scheme, so it's great that Queen's supports a visiting research student program so that I could come here and work in this rich and stimulating research environment.
I started my work as an assistant professor at Mansoura University in 2013. I teach data mining, e-business strategies, communication systems, and information theory.
I am currently a visiting researcher for six months at the Telecommunications Research Lab at Queen's University, Canada, collaborating with professor Hossam S. Hassanein on research involving smart city services and Internet of Things new trends.
I love music of all kinds, reading of all genres, and writing. I play the piano a bit and I am currently learning how to play the violin. I occasionally write in three blogs; a personal blog, a blog for translating interesting English articles and writings into Arabic, and a blog that I used to write about different aspects of my job.
